Melanie became a member of Chambers in 2021 following successful completion of pupillage under the supervision and guidance of James Cullen. During pupillage, Melanie gained experience in advocacy and drafting in all areas of civil law. She is now developing a busy civil law practice, primarily focused on personal injury and clinical negligence.
Having read law at the University of Liverpool, Melanie completed the BPTC at Manchester Metropolitan University, obtaining a Very Competent.
Following university, Melanie worked as an employed advocate and Costs Lawyer for various leading national law firms representing both Claimants and Defendants across the UK in matters involving costs, personal injury and regulatory law. Melanie gained specific experience prosecuting cases of serious professional misconduct for the Teaching Regulation Agency across a range of allegations, including those involving fraud, sexual misconduct and non-accidental injury of children.
Melanie forges excellent relationships with instructing solicitors and turns paperwork around quickly. She is happy to provide informal advice at any stage and is happy to be contacted by email or telephone.

Civil Litigation
Melanie is regularly instructed to appear at interlocutory hearings, stage 3 hearings, small claims and trials in both Claimant and Defendant work across extensive areas of civil litigation.
Melanie’s has developed her practice in the following areas: Personal Injury claims arising out of road traffic collisions, Claims involving credit hire, Occupiers’ and Employers’ liability claims and Clinical Negligence.
Melanie also accepts instructions to draft pleadings and advise on quantum, liability and procedure both in conference and on paper.
Having qualified as a Costs Lawyer in 2018, Melanie has a particular interest in costs. Prior to commencing work at the Bar, Melanie worked for numerous leading national law firms appearing for both receiving and paying parties in a range of costs matters including; interlocutory costs applications, Costs and Case Management Hearings and Detailed Assessments. She has a technical working knowledge of the whole costs process from start to finish owing to her experience in drafting Costs budgets, Precedent Rs, bills of costs and Points of Dispute and Reply.
Melanie accepts instructions to appear at CCMCs as well as application and assessment hearings and can provide realisitic and pragmatic advice to both paying and receiving parties in costs matters arising following the conclusion of civil disputes.
